Brees and Saints win Super Bowl, 31-17 over ColtsBrees and Saints win Super Bowl, 31-17 over Colts
February 8, 2010
MIAMI, Fla. (AP) – The ultimate underdogs, they ain’t. Not anymore. The Saints are Super Bowl champions now. Who Dat? Try Drew Brees, Sean Payton and a team that has reversed its embarrassing past, carrying an entire city to the top with it.
Put away those paper bags forever.
Brees and the Saints rallied to upset Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 Sunday night in one of pro football’s most thrilling title games.
“We just believed in ourselves and we knew that we had an entire city and maybe an entire country behind us,” said Brees, the game’s MVP. “What can I say? I tried to imagine what this moment would be like for a long time, and it’s better than expected.”
But not something many expected from these descendants of the hapless Aints, who were 5-point underdogs.
“Four years ago who ever thought this would be happening when 85 percent of the city was under water from (Hurricane) Katrina?” Brees said. “Most people not knowing if New Orleans would ever come back or if the organization and the team would come back. … This is the culmination of that belief and that faith.”
Watching the Tebow Ad: We are Right to be AngryWatching the Tebow Ad: We are Right to be Angry
February 8, 2010
The Nation — Folks – the Tim Tebow/Pam Tebow ad has finally aired and it is about as vanilla as an Andy Williams Christmas Special. This is none too surprising. After all, CBS actually co-produced the ad to run seamlessly with the rest of its slick Super Bowl coverage. This has the anti-choice right wing on the blogs mocking the National Organization for Women and Planned Parenthood for “making a big deal over nothing.” But the concerns of NOW and Planned Parenthood were absolutely spot on when you saw the final shot of the ad: “This message is brought to you by Focus on the Family.” The idea that Focus on the Family – an organization that believes in reparative therapy for LGBT people, that likens abortion rights to the Nazi holocaust, and that has shadowy connections to open hate groups – gets this kind of a mammoth public forum is an absolute disgrace.
As for the ad, Pam Tebow speaks about the choice to ignore her doctor’s advice and risk her own life. She has every right to stand on a soap box with her hunky, Heisman winning son, and tell other women about the benefits of ignoring your doctor. But the idea that CBS would provide the platform for such a message without so much as a medical disclaimer, is simply wrong.

Huskies Sign Top-Notch Recruiting Class
February 4, 2010
(Q13 Fox)The University of Washington football team’s 2010 recruiting class features 30 players, making it one of the largest and most diverse in modern Husky history.
The class, introduced by second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian today, boasts 16 recruits from the state of California, nine from Washington, four from Hawai’i, plus one from Oregon. Additionally, depending on what position a few of the recruits end up playing, the signing class could easily fill all 22 different positions on a football team on offense and defense.
One of the 30 signees, tailback Deontae Cooper, has already enrolled at the UW. Two members of the class have older brothers on the current Husky team: Zach Fogerson’s brother Johri is a running back and Jamaal Kearse’s brother Jermaine is a wide receiver. Additionally, Cooper Pelluer’s father, Scott, is a former UW assistant coach and his uncle, Steve, was a standout quarterback for the Dawgs in the 1980s.
Police Seize Hundreds Of Counterfeit NFL Jerseys And Mariners Uniforms
February 4, 2010
SEATTLE – (Q13 Fox) -That Ken Griffey Jr. Mariners uniform or Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks jersey you bought online our outside the ballfield may not be the real deal after all.
Seattle police have broken up a counterfeit athletic jersey operation that likely sold hundreds of fake jerseys to customers.
And unless someone told you they’re not the genuine article — uniforms that are National Football League-approved or have Major League Baseball’s stamp of approval — you probably wouldn’t know any better.
The three-month long investigation began on October 20th, when a Vice Unit detective took in a complaint that an individual was selling counterfeit NFL Jerseys on Craigslist.
Ex-NFLer Hill in ICE Super Bowl counterfeit effort
February 4, 2010
MIAMI – AP – Randal Hill spent seven years in the NFL catching passes and scoring touchdowns. Now he and other federal agents are working to prevent criminals from ripping off fans and the league at the Super Bowl.
Hill is part of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement team that is scouring South Florida for counterfeit merchandise and arresting the people who peddle it.
“We’re hitting every store that we possibly can. We will continue and we won’t stop,” said Hill, a speedy wide receiver on the University of Miami’s 1989 national championship team. His NFL career included stops with the Saints, Dolphins and Cardinals.
Snow Shipped In To Winter Olympics
February 3, 2010
VANCOUVER, B.C. – All this nice weather is great for us. But it’s bad news for the Olympics.
Extra snow is being trucked into Vancouver, B.C. ahead of the Winter Olympics.
Big dump trucks are hauling the snow from the Allison Pass area near Manning Park, which is over 150 miles from where the games are scheduled to take place.
Organizers say it’s necessary because of unseasonably warm weather, which has prevented snow from sticking around.
“The venue is looking terrific, but it’s really just being prudent to make sure that if it should stay warm or possibly get warmer we have a stockpile of snow on site that we can draw on should we need it,” says Renee Smith-Valade of the Vancouver Olympic Committee.
The games open February 12th and run through the 28th.

Griffey had surgery on his left knee in October. Seattle Mariners trainer Rick Griffin says Griffey is “better now than he was at any time last year.”

NBA commissioner Stern suspends Wizards’ Arenas, Crittenton for remainder of season
January 28, 2010
NEW YORK (AP) — With lengthy suspensions for Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton, commissioner David Stern showed how serious he is about keeping guns off NBA property.
And just in case players need more convincing, Stern said he and players’ association director Billy Hunter will discuss ways to make his message even clearer.
“This is about the health and safety of our players and all players,” Stern said, “as well as our overall image of our players, and we’re going to make, I would guess, an even stronger statement on this subject than is being made by this
